September 11 Scholarship Funds

After 9/11, Scholarship America, our donors, and other scholarship providers realized the need for a simplified scholarship application process for the families of victims. As part of the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, Scholarship America developed a single, simple application that all families in need can use for the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund as well as the Subfunds and Designated Subfunds listed here.

Scholarship America serves as the primary repository for registration and application information, ensuring that financial assistance for postsecondary education gets into the hands of those who need it most with minimal paperwork and frustration. The Subfunds and Designated Subfunds are administrated in conjunction with the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund. Applicants to Families of Freedom are also eligible to apply for these funds as specified.

This section also lists a number of other funds that provide assistance to 9/11 families, including Memorial Funds, Other Funds administered by Scholarship America, and funds from other organizations that are not administered by Scholarship America.

“The Families of Freedom Scholarship has been a tremendous benefit to me and my brother in pursuing our college degrees,” said Evan Kanter of Edison, N.J., a Families of Freedom Scholarship recipient. “The Fund has allowed us the ability to focus on the parts of life that are most important to us. The first year after 9/11 was very hard to take, but the scholarship has relieved some of the financial burden from my mother, brother and me.” Read more
