Other Funds

Like the Memorial Funds, these funds are administered by Scholarship America, and, except where noted, they are separate from the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund. Unlike the Memorial Funds, eligibility is not limited to a specific group of 9/11 families.

CFA Institute 11 September Memorial Scholarship Program
CFA Institute and The Research Foundation of CFA Institute have established a scholarship program to assist dependent children, spouses and domestic partners of those persons who died or were permanently disabled or victims permanently disabled as a direct result of the 11 September 2001 attacks, who plan to pursue education in college or vocational school programs now or in the future. Scholarships are offered each year for part-time or full-time study in finance, economics, accounting or business ethics majors at an accredited institution of the student’s choice. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need as calculated by Scholarship America must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award. If selected, the student will receive an award of up to US$25,000, depending on financial need. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Awards are for undergraduate study only, and are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, age, gender or disability. Contact cfai@scholarshipamerica.org for more information.

Twin Towers Fund Scholarship Program
Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani established the fund, while many individuals contributed to the fund. The purpose of the fund is to assist, support, and recognize the families of the members of the uniformed service workers affected by September 11, 2001 by offering scholarships for post-secondary education

“The Families of Freedom Scholarship has been a tremendous benefit to me and my brother in pursuing our college degrees,” said Evan Kanter of Edison, N.J., a Families of Freedom Scholarship recipient. “The Fund has allowed us the ability to focus on the parts of life that are most important to us. The first year after 9/11 was very hard to take, but the scholarship has relieved some of the financial burden from my mother, brother and me.” Read more
